FAQ: MailMarshal or WebMarshal reports and MRC

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • Marshal Reporting Console
  • Trustwave MailMarshal (SEG)
  • Trustwave ECM/MailMarshal Exchange
  • WebMarshal

Question:

  • What is Marshal Reporting Console?
  • How can I upgrade the MailMarshal Reports or WebMarshal Reports for version 6.9 or above?
  • Where should I install Marshal Reporting Console?

Reply:

Marshal Reporting Console (MRC) allows you to create reports on data logged by MailMarshal SMTP, MailMarshal Exchange, and WebMarshal. You can report on system activity, threats, and blocked or quarantined items. You can schedule reports or generate reports immediately. MRC is a server-based tool with a web interface.

MRC is a new solution that replaces the older WebMarshal Reports or MailMarshal Reports (which use the Crystal engine and install on workstations). MRC is available to all MailMarshal and WebMarshal customers.

  • Note: Installing MRC does not change or uninstall the older Reports.

MRC is the only supported reporting software for MailMarshal SMTP/SEG 6.9 (and above) and WebMarshal 6.9 (and above). MRC can also be used with some earlier versions of these products.

MRC is the only supported reporting software for MailMarshal Exchange 7.X.

For more information, please review the documentation for MRC and for your specific version of MailMarshal or WebMarshal. Documentation is available on the support downloads pages.

Where to install MRC

You can install MRC on any computer in your network that meets the hardware and software prerequisites.

  • MRC must be able to access the MailMarshal or WebMarshal reporting database.
  • In most cases, you will install an additional SQL Express database server on the server where you install MRC (see Q14532). MRC and its SQL instance MUST be on the same computer.
  • MRC can use significant memory and other resources.
  • If you choose to install MRC on the same server as your existing MailMarshal or WebMarshal software, be aware that this could affect the throughput of MailMarshal or WebMarshal.
  • You can enhance performance by using more than one server. For instance:
    • Use one or more separate processing nodes, as well as an Array Manager server, for MailMarshal or WebMarshal.
    • Use a separate server for web based components (the MailMarshal SQM, web console, and MRC).
  • If you are installing these products on virtual servers, see the cautions in Q11828.

Note:

The versions of MailMarshal or WebMarshal supported differ for each version of MRC. See the MRC release notes for details.
