HOWTO: How do I use CA AntiVirus with MailMarshal?

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • Trustwave MailMarshal (SEG)
  • Trustwave ECM/MailMarshal Exchange
  • CA AntiVirus
  • InoculateIT 6.0
  • eTrust™ EZAntiVirus

Question:

How do I use CA AntiVirus with MailMarshal (formerly called eTrust™ EZAntiVirus or InoculateIT)

Procedure:

You can use CA AntiVirus from Computer Associates with MailMarshal. It has a special command line utility which can be run under MailMarshal. (Note: eTrust (TM) EZAntiVirus and InoculateIT versions prior to 6.0 will not work with MailMarshal).

To set up CA AntiVirus under MailMarshal, follow these steps:

  1. In the Configurator or Management Console, navigate to Policy Elements | Virus scanners
  2. With supported versions of MailMarshal, this product is one of the default command line virus scanners you can choose. The name varies by version.
  3. In the Command Line or Path field, browse to the caavcmdscan.exe in the CA directory.
  4. Parameters are entered automatically. However you should confirm the options for your version of the scanner.
  5. Set up a virus scanning rule, using the "Where message contains a virus" condition if you do not have one already.

Notes:

  • If you run the CA AntiVirus Realtime Monitor on the MailMarshal server, you also need to exclude the MailMarshal folder and its subfolders, plus the Explode directory, from any Realtime scanning. See the User Guide or Help to understand the reason for this requirement.

The location of these folders is discussed in knowledge base article Q10850

Also see article Q11603 the following article as it relates to the installation of CA Antivirus.
