HOWTO: Setting Windows Locale (date format) for Marshal product services

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • Trustwave MailMarshal (SEG) 8.X and below
  • Trustwave ECM/MailMarshal Exchange
  • MailMarshal SPE

Question:

  • How do I set the Windows locale for Marshal product services?
  • How can I set the date formats used by Marshal products?

Information:

To set the appropriate date format, you must ensure that the account used by services is configured with the appropriate locale. The locale of the server installation is the default for all accounts. Changes to the locale normally apply only for each individual account.

If you want to change the date locale for the services, you can do one of the following:

  • Log on to the server using an account such as Administrator. Use the Windows Regional and Language Options control panel to change the locale for the account, and then configure the required SEG, ECM, or SPE services to run using that account. If you change the locale, you must restart the services to apply the change.
  • Change the locale for service accounts:
    • In Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP, log on as an administrator. Change the regional options for the account. Then, on the Advanced tab of Regional and Language Options, select the box under Default user account settings. Restart the server to apply the change to service accounts.
    • In Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista, use the "Copy to reserved accounts" function (found on the Administrative tab of Regional and Language Options), and select "System Accounts". Restart the server to apply the change.
    • In Windows Server 2008 R2, use the "Copy settings" function (found on the Administrative tab of Regional and Language Options), and select "Welcome screen and system accounts". Restart the server to apply the change.

Notes:

  • Windows locale settings do not apply to the MailMarshal (SEG) 10.X Management Console.
  • For more information about locale settings and requirements, see the following articles:
  • Verify the change is applied to ALL services that you intended. In some cases services will run under different accounts. These could be "built in "service" accounts, local accounts, or domain accounts.
    • To apply changes to local or domain accounts, complete the change for EACH account.
  • These settings can be affected by Windows Group Policy settings from Active Directory. Make sure that any GPO locale settings do not affect the accounts used by MailMarshal.
  • Caution: the "Language for non-Unicode programs" MUST be set to English for SPE installations including the managed SEG arrays. This setting is also strongly recommended for all SEG installations.
