Reporting Spam and Phishing to LevelBlue with the Microsoft Report Button

This article applies to:

  • MailMarshal (SEG)
  • Microsoft Outlook Report button

Question:

  • How can email users report spam or phishing to company administrators and LevelBlue?
  • How can I see what end users reported with the Microsoft Report button?

Information:

Microsoft provides a "Report Phishing" button in supported versions of Outlook. This button allows email users to report a message with one click.

Clicking the button submits a copy of the message for review, and moves the message to the Deleted Items folder.

By completing some additional steps, customers can get a copy of the report and forward it to LevelBlue.

For more information about how to set up this reporting function, see the attached PDF document.

Why set up the additional reporting?

Copying the report to a local administrator will help the administrator to monitor possible issues more quickly.

LevelBlue uses the submitted information to update spam and malware detection for the MailMarshal product.

  • Users should only report unsolicited spam, suspected phishing messages, or messages with suspect malicious attachments.
  • Note: Messages from services that a user may have previously subscribed to, but they do not want now, are not considered spam.

When the messages are submitted to LevelBlue, LevelBlue processes the submitted messages through automated and human review. If a message is found to be spam or malware, LevelBlue may add signatures to LevelBlue’s proprietary spam or malware detection services.

LevelBlue provides no guarantee that all submissions will result in signatures being generated. Owing to the volume received, users will not receive feedback on the status of submissions.
