This article applies to:
- McAfee for Marshal 6.X
- Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS)
- Hosting a mirror site for Engine updates locally with HTTP
Question:
- What special settings are required to mirror McAfee for Marshal updates on a local HTTP server?
Information:
The McAfee for Marshal engine updates use an .INI file to list the available version number and other information. This is a plain text file.
By default, IIS does not serve INI files, since they represent a theoretical security risk.
To allow IIS to serve the file, you must add this file type to the MIME map in IIS.
To add the type:
- On the local server where the file will be posted, open IIS Manager.
- Open the property sheet for the virtual website or virtual directory.
- On the HTTP Headers tab, click File Types.
- Click New Type.
- Enter the following information:
- Associated Extension: INI
- Content Type: Text/Plain
- Click OK to exit from the dialogs and property sheet.
- You may need to restart IIS.
Notes:
- This is an advanced option and will only be used by a few customers. This setting is NOT required if you are retrieving updates from the default Marshal and McAfee sites.
- Microsoft states that if you apply MIME map changes on master property sheets, any custom changes for sites or directories will be lost and must be re-entered.
