HOWTO: Changing installed virus scanner (new license bundles)

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • Trustwave MailMarshal (SEG)
  • WebMarshal

Question:

  • How do I update to Sophos for Marshal from another virus scanner?
  • Sophos for Marshal is bundled with my renewal for MailMarshal or WebMarshal. What do I need to do?

Background:

From May 2021, Sophos for Marshal is included with MailMarshal and WebMarshal "essentials" and "advanced" packages.
  • Customers who previously used only Sophos for Marshal must request and install a new product key (as usual).
  • Customers who previously used another scanner (such as McAfee for Marshal) will need to update scanner software and license keys.

Procedure:

To update from another scanner:

  1. When you get the purchase confirmation for the renewal, you can make a key request from the MailMarshal or WebMarshal user interface.
  2. The key you receive in reply will include entitlement for both the previous scanner and Sophos for Marshal.
    • This key will be valid until the end of the previous scanner entitlement.
    • For requests made less than 30 days before the end of the old license term, you will also receive a key for the next license term.
    • For example: Your previous license for MailMarshal and McAfee for Marshal expires on 30 July 2021. You renew for two years. You make a key request on 4 July. You get two email messages with license keys:
      • A key valid until 30 July 2021 for MailMarshal, McAfee for Marshal, and Sophos for Marshal
      • A key valid until 30 July 2023 for MailMarshal and Sophos for Marshal
  3. Install the key that licenses both scanners.
  4. Download and install Sophos for Marshal. Engine and IDE (signature) updates will be permitted by the product key. Allow the updates to complete.
  5. In MailMarshal and/or WebMarshal, add Sophos for Marshal as a virus scanner.
  6. Review anti-virus rules. Default rules use any scanner.
    • If you created any rules that refer to the previous scanner by name, you must update the rules.
  7. When you have confirmed that Sophos for Marshal is installed, has been updated, and all rules are correct, remove the previous scanner from MailMarshal or WebMarshal, and then uninstall the previous scanner.
  8. Install the key that licenses Sophos for Marshal for the full license term.

Notes:

If you request a new key more than 30 days before the license term date, you will need to make another key request to get the key for the full term of your new license.
