INFO: Configuration backups and uncommitted changes

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • Trustwave MailMarshal (SEG)
  • Configuration Backup and Restore

Question:

  • Are "uncommitted" changes included in configuration backups?

Information:

In SEG 8.X and below, the backed up configuration reflects what is shown in the Configurator. Uncommitted changes are included in backups. If you restore a backup, you must commit configuration to apply the restore, so the changes will be applied. This can mean that the running configuration applied to processing nodes after the restore will differ from the running configuration at the time of backup.

  • There is no easy way to identify changes that were previously uncommitted.
  • To ensure that a restore does not introduce unexpected changes, restore an automatic backup made on configuration commit. These backups always reflect the committed configuration at the time of backup.
In MailMarshal (SEG) 10.X, the backed up configuration reflects the state of the Configuration Service. Uncommitted changes are not included.
