HOWTO: Using the MSOLEDBSQL database driver with SEG

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • MailMarshal SEG 8.1
    • Note: MSOLEDBSQL is the default driver in versions 8.2 and above. No further action is required in these versions of SEG.

Question:

  • How can I configure SEG to use the MSOLEDBSQL driver?
  • How can I connect to a SQL server that requires TLSv1.2 connectivity?

Procedure:

By default, MailMarshal SEG (and MailMarshal) 8.1 and below uses the SQLOLEDB database provider. This provider does not work with TLS version 1.2.

With SEG 8.1, to allow SEG to use a logging database on a SQL server that requires TLS 1.2 connectivity:

  1. On the Array Manager server, edit the Registry.
  2. Navigate to the key HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Trustwave\Secure Email Gateway\Manager\Database
  3. Add a String value (REG_SZ) as follows:
    Name: DatabaseProvider
    Value: MSOLEDBSQL
  • To apply the change, restart the Array Manager service.
  • To revert the change, delete the value DatabaseProvider and restart the Array Manager service.

Note:

This setting has no effect on data logged.
