HOWTO: Check the RAID and HDD status on a LP device using the MegaRAID card

Question:

  • How can I check the status of my hard drives in my SIEM LP?
  • How can I check the status of the RAID in my SIEM LP?

Procedure:

You can use the following command to show the status of the hard drives and the RAID setup in an LP unit using the MegaRAID card:

MegaCli -CfgDsply –aALL

Errors on hard drives contribute to poor performance and drive write errors can cause data corruption. Some critical areas to examine are Media Error Count, Other Error Count, and Predictive Error Count. You can also see the RAID type under RAID Level, check the number of drives, and the state of the hard drive and firmware. The locations of those items are indicated on this sample output:


Notes:

Typically only SuperMicro hardware uses the MegaRAID card.
