HOWTO: Provisioning customer-maintained blacklists in SPE

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • MailMarshal SPE

Question:

  • How can I allow Managed customers in SPE to maintain their own blacklists of senders?
  • Each customer should be able to maintain their own unique blacklist through the Customer Console

Procedure:

To allow a customer maintained blacklist, use the "user group exception" feature in the Customer Console.
  1. In the SPE Admin Console, make a customer package policy, as shown in the first image. It can be enabled, since it does nothing.
    • Note it has no exceptions.

  2. In the SPE Customer Console, the customer creates and populates an external user group.

  3. The customer adds this external user group as a User Group Exception to the rule called “Skip next or blacklist”.
    • See the link User Exceptions for the rule (in the Customer Console under Rules > Package Policies)

  4. The package as shown in the Customer Console summary looks like the last image.
    • Note it now has an exception, but this exception only applies to the individual customer.

You can publish the package to any or all customers. It will do nothing unless they add their own user group exception.

Notes:

You can use the same strategy to allow the customer to enable or disable any rule or set of rules.
