HOWTO: Sending Delay Notifications to External Addresses

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • Trustwave MailMarshal (SEG)

Question:

  • Notifications of delayed delivery are only sent to local recipients
  • How do I send delay notifications for incoming messages to the original sender?

Procedure:

By default MailMarshal sends notifications of delayed delivery only to local users (email addresses matching the Local Domains table). In practice this means that delay messages are sent only for outgoing messages.

If you want to send delay notifications to external users (where the delayed message originated in a non-local domain), you can configure this behavior using an Advanced Setting or Registry entry.

  • For version 10.0 and above: In the Management Console, navigate to Advanced Settings
    • Add the Advanced Setting Sender.SuppressExternalNotifications
    • Set the value to Boolean False (not selected)
  • For version 8.X: Edit the Registry and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Trustwave\Secure Email Gateway\Default\Sender
    • Create a DWORD value SuppressExternalNotifications
    • Set the value to 0
Reload MailMarshal configuration.

Notes:

  • For full details of the location for each product version, see article Q10832.
  • As always, take due care when editing the Registry.
