PRB: MailMarshal command line utilities fail

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • Trustwave MailMarshal (SEG)
  • Command line utilities
  • Current Windows versions

Symptoms:

  • MailMarshal command line utilities fail due to insufficient permissions
  • Affected utilities include MMGroupFileImport and others
  • Sample error message: Import failed: Failed to fetch groups: Insufficient registry rights to configuration

Causes:

  • On some newer Windows versions, by default the command prompt does not run with elevated administrator permission, even if you are logged in to the server as an administrator.
  • MailMarshal utilities that connect to the Array Manager service generally require administrator permission.

Resolution:

Open a command prompt window as administrator (using the right click options in Windows). Run the MailMarshal utility in this command prompt window.
