INFO: Incorrect broadcast address after re-image and initial configuration

Expand / Collapse

  • Description
The broadcast address of a newly installed Vital Security NG-1000 or NG-5000 appliance might not be set to the correct address.
This can be verified in the Setup Console interface or via the limited shell.

  • Symptoms
As shown, the broadcast address of the interface is incorrectly set to 10.0.0.255.
After running the first install wizard (https://10.0.5.1:3012) you can choose to set the primary interface to a different address. Even though this is set correctly, the broadcast address remains unchanged when it should have been set to "automatic".

  • Cause
The default install image assumes a 10.0.0/24 network.
The broadcast address is set fixed to 10.0.0.255.

  • Solution
After running the initial setup wizard, go to the Setup Console "Network Interfaces" and "Edit Bootup Interface" pages for the given IP address.
Set the broadcast address for the configured interface to "automatic" and apply the changes and network settings.
A reboot is required for the changed settings to take effect.
