This article applies to:

• MailMarshal Exchange 5.3 and 7.0
• Exchange 2007 with Premium Journaling enabled

Symptoms:

• Messages are journaled twice: once before processing by MailMarshal Exchange and again after processing. 

Causes:

• Exchange 2007 Premium Journaling operates in the OnSubmission handler. Each message is journaled when first submitted (before it is processed by MailMarshal Exchange) and again once MailMarshal Exchange re-submits it through the Replay directory.

Notes:

• If journaling is used to audit all email submitted, this behavior may be considered appropriate.
• This behavior may not occur with MailMarshal Exchange /ECM 7.1 because a new method is used to re-submit messages and most messages do not pass through the Replay directory.
