INFO: What is the ER's Secure Access feature?

Question:

What is the ER's Secure Access feature?

Reply

The Secure Access feature in the ER Admin GUI is primarily used by 8e6 Technical Support to perform maintenance on the unit. This involves the ER server making a connection to our public keyserver, then us connecting to your ER server via reverse telnet.

The Secure Access feature is a viable alternative if your ER server is behind a firewall and you cannot allow ssh access via a public NAT address.

Please use the following steps to enable the ER's Secure Access feature.

1.
Log onto the ER's Admin GUI on port 88 (or port 808 for IR units)

2. Go to Server > Secure Access

3. In the "Port #:" textfield, enter a port in the 7000-7999 range. Click Start to activate the port. This action enters the port number in the list box above, replacing the "No connection" text.

The port should now be enabled.

After maintenance is completed, the port should be disabled. You can do this by Stopping the particular port from the connections list or pressing the "Stop All" button.

Note: A reboot of the server will automatically disable all previously enabled Secure Access ports.
