How to use the Real-Time Probe Feature

This feature lets the administrator monitor a user's Internet usage in real time to see if that user is using the Internet appropriately.

In a nutshell, here's how you can quickly configure a probe to watch your IP address for one minute:

1.  In the R3000 GUI, go to Reporting -> Real-Time Probe

2. On the Configuration tab, click "On, and then click "Save"

3. Click on the small link at the bottom-right that says "Go to Real Time Probe Reports GUI"

4.  Click on "Create"

5.  In the Display Name field, name your report anything you'd like...

6.  In Search Option, select "IP Address". In the empty field right below it, enter the IP address of your workstation.

7.  If you want to receive a copy of the report by email, enter your email address in the "Email address to mail the completed report" field.

8.  Start Date & Time: select "Now"

9.  Total run time in minutes: enter "1"

10.  Click "Apply," and then quickly launch your web browser and browse around.

At end of one minute, click "View" in the Real Time Probe Reports GUI. When your probe shows a "Completed" status, select it and click "View."

The final report should display all the sites you visited during the last minute, and it should also indicate whether the request was allowed or blocked.

If you don't see a Filter Option column in the report that shows allowed/blocked requests, you'll need to enable enhanced logging. Go to Reporting -> Shadow Log Format and choose "Post 2.0.10 format (manual)".  If you don't see this option, patch-up your R3000 to version 2.0.10.8 or above.
