INFO: How to deploy 8e6 Authenticator through a batch file.

This article applies to:

  • R3000

Question:

How to deploy 8e6 Authenticator through a batch file.

Reply

NOTE: This article assumes authentication settings on the R3000 are correctly configured AND an active domain is already established.

You will need to place the following into the network share folder for all users:

  • authenticat.exe
  • authenticat.bat

In the .bat file, add the following line:

\\path-to-authenticate\authenticat.exe RA[<virtual_ip_address>]

Replace the <virtual_ip_address> placeholder with the virtual network IP address of the R3000 filter appliance between the square brackets [ ]. The virtual IP used for authentication can be found under the System Tab > Authentication > Authentication Settings. There are other command line parameters you can add, but this is the simplest method.

Now just make sure this command gets executed upon login and it should authenticate the user using authenticat.exe. If the command is executed successfully, the User Name Log (usage.log) will record the event as "LOGON" followed by other relevent information such as IP address, username, profile, etc. You can check this log in the R3000 GUI, System Tab > Diagnostics > View Log File.
