INFO: I am getting email alerts from my R3000 stating MAC address discovery utility failure type 1

Question:

I am getting email alerts from my R3000 stating MAC address discovery utility failure type 1

Reply

This is an environment specific issue where R3000 could trigger email alerts when R3000's utility, responsible for resolving MAC address of the default gateway, sends an ARP request out to get the MAC address of the gateway and does not receive a response. This ARP request for default gateway's MAC address is issued every five (5) minutes. If a response is not received for three consecutive attempts (or 15 minutes), R3000 sends first email alert. An email alert is sent thereafter for each consecutive failed try. This email alert stops when R3000 does receive response to its ARP query. While R3000 is awaiting a response to the ARP request, it uses the last known MAC address for the default gateway for the purpose of block page delivery.

You can check default gateway's listed MAC address in the R3000 GUI by navigating to System à Mode à Operation Mode.  The default gateway’s MAC address is listed in the lower half of the screen.  You can also try changing block page delivery method to “Send Block Page via ARP Table”.
