FAQ: What happened to the "Cults," "Religious Opinion," and "Outdoor Recreation" categories?

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • R3000

Question:

What happened to the "Cults," "Religious Opinion," and "Outdoor Recreation" categories?

Reply:

Effective 4/16/2007, all URIs in "Cults" and "Religious Opinion" will be placed in "Religion." "Cults" and "Religious Opinion" wil no longer be updated and will be removed in R3000 software version 2.0.10. At that time, "Cults" will also be removed from the "CIPA" Rule. Additionally, "Outdoor Recreation" will no longer be updated, and will be removed in R3000 software version 2.0.10. 8e6 is making this change in order to meet the needs of our large customer base. In the case of Recreation, tis will ease administration in removing a category that does not provide useful delineation from a filtering standpoint. On the religion side, we have received several requests from customers due to sites being categorized in ways that offend their users. A few customers have been involved in potential legal situations in regrds to discrimination. 8e6 is making this change to protect our customers. If you feel that you need to have the "Cults" category, you can create a custom category called "Cults." 8e6 technical support will provide the URL list to that category. However, this category will not be updated by 8e6. It will only contain URIs that were categorized as "Cults" as of 4/16/2007.
