FAQ: What is the function of the IP Group Administrator?

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • R3000

Question:

What is the function of the IP Group Administrator?

Reply

For each Master IPGroup, an account is created where the username is the name of the IPGroup and password is defined upon creation of the IPGroup. Note: The password can be change by going to the "Group Details" menu of the particular IPGroup.

This account serves 2 functions: IPGroup Admin and Override Account. IPGroup Admin This account can be used as a login account to the R3000 GUI. Upon login, the rights for the account are limited to the following:

  • Can only access the Home, Group, Library, and Help tabs.
  • In the Group tab, they are only able to see and edit their own IPGroup. Nothing else will be visible (Global Group, other IPGroups, LDAP Groups, etc.)
  • n the Library tab, they can only create and edit their own Custom Categories. They will not have access to any 8e6 Supplied Categories or any Custom Categories created by other Admin accounts.
  • They can still perform Library Lookups. Override Account The account can also serve as an Override Account. By default, all IPGroup Admin override accounts will receive a profile of "Rule1 Bypass" and will be labeled as MASTER-ACCOUNT-DEFAULT. For instance, say the IPGroup is named SMITHGROUP, the Override Account entry in the Username Log file will look like this: LOGON, 2007-10-31 15:46:55, 10.10.19.8, SMITHGROUP, I, J I, 4, MASTER-ACCOUNT-DEFAULT, 0, p4
