HOWTO: Deleting messages from an archive folder

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • Trustwave MailMarshal (SEG)
  • Trustwave ECM/MailMarshal Exchange 7.X

Question:

  • How can I delete messages from an archive folder.

Note: Manually deleting messages from an archive folder is not a normal operational procedure for MailMarshal.

Procedure:

  • In the Console, navigate to the archive folder and double click the email message record. The Path field shows the physical location of the message, which will be on one of the email processing servers.
  • Use Windows Explorer or other tools to connect to the physical location and delete the file.

Notes:

Basic message records will still be visible in the Console, because this information is stored in the SQL database. These records will be purged eventually as part of normal operation. Advanced users could delete these records manually.

Warning: Manual changes to the SQL database could cause operational issues and are not supported by Trustwave.
