PRB: Can't access Spam Quarantine Management system, 'Access denied' or 'Unable to connect'

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • Trustwave MailMarshal (SEG)
  • Trustwave ECM/MailMarshal Exchange 7.X
  • MailMarshal Web Components

Symptoms:

  • When logging into the Spam Quarantine Management or Quarantine Management website, you encounter one of the following errors
  • CheckNTLMUser Failed - Error 5 - Access is Denied
  • Unable to connect to MailMarshal Array Manager, if the problem persists please contact your Administrator

Information:

The most common cause of this problem is that the Windows credential used to connect from the SQM or QM website to the Array Manager is invalid. Either the password has expired, or the account has been removed, or the account cannot be validated at the Array Manager.

The account used can be a domain account or a local account on the Array Manager server, and must have administrative privilege on the Array Manager.

Fix:

To correct this error:

Trustwave MailMarshal (SEG) 6.4 and above
Trustwave ECM/MailMarshal Exchange 7.X

  1. On the web server hosting this site, open IIS Manager.
  2. Navigate to the properties of the SQM or QM virtual directory.
  3. Select the ASP.NET tab and click Edit Configuration.
  4. On the General tab, in the Application settings section, locate the Key InitialConfigurationComplete. Change the Value to False.
  5. Click OK repeatedly to apply the changes and exit from IIS Manager.
  6. Using a web browser, open the default page of the affected site. You should be directed to the Configuration page. Enter the new account information. Do not attempt to change other settings.
  7. If you have more than one web server hosting the SQM or QM, you may need to repeat these steps on each server.

MailMarshal SMTP 6.0 through 6.2

  1. On each SQM server, open the MailMarshal Web Configuration Tool.
  2. On the Spam Quarantine Management tab of the tool, enter a username and password with sufficient privileges.

Note:

If Active Directory integration is in use, the Array Manager service must be run under an account with permission to access Active Directory.
