FAQ: How many SQL Server connections does MailMarshal or WebMarshal use?

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • Trustwave MailMarshal (SEG)
  • Trustwave ECM/MailMarshal Exchange
  • WebMarshal
  • Marshal Reporting Console

Question:

  • How many SQL Server connections does MailMarshal or WebMarshal use?

Reply:

  • Trustwave MailMarshal (SEG) 10.0 and above uses two SQL Server connections for each Array Manager by default (one is used by the Configuration Service). If Syslog export is configured, an additional connection is used for the Syslog database.
  • MailMarshal SMTP 8.X uses one SQL Server connection for each Array Manager.
  • MailMarshal Exchange 7.X uses one SQL Server connection for each Array Manager.
  • WebMarshal 7.X uses one SQL Server connection for each Array Manager.
  • Where the Marshal Reporting Console is used (supporting one or more products), it consumes one connection.

SQL Server usability

Free Editions

  • SQL Express does not have a limit on database operations or connections, but it does have a limit on database size.

Note: For information on database sizing, see Trustwave Knowledgebase article Q10829

Licensed Editions

SQL Server is available in a number of editions, with either per-processor or CAL based licensing models. Customers who deploy web based interfaces such as the Spam Quarantine Management console and Marshal Reporting Console should be aware of Microsoft policies about websites and CAL based licensing.

For detailed information on SQL Server licensing, contact your Microsoft representative. For background reading, see http://www.microsoft.com/sql/howtobuy
