- How do I remove read receipt requests from incoming email?
Procedure:
Read receipts are a feature of certain email clients that allow a message sender to be notified when their message is read by its recipient. Read receipt requests typically cause the message recipient to be prompted to send a read notification when they open the message in their email client. Email clients also frequently have optional features that automatically send read receipts without prompting the user.
Some organizations may have privacy concerns around sending read receipts to other parties, and may choose to implement policy that forbids sending read receipts in response to incoming email.
Using MailMarshal SMTP, an organization can easily and selectively remove read receipt requests where appropriate. To do so, create a rule similar to the one below:
Standard Rule: Delete Read Receipts & Return Receipts
This rule removes common Read Receipt and Return Receipt fields from the message header.
When a message arrives
Where message is incoming
Except where addressed to 'Support'
Or except where addressed from 'Business Partners'
Rewrite message headers using 'Delete Read Receipt fields'
And pass message to the next rule for processing.
