INFO: What is the difference between the two 'Time Zone Adjustment' options?

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • Firewall Suite 4.X

Question:

What is the difference between the two 'Time Zone Adjustment' options?

Information:

There are two settings available for time zones in the General configuration options.

  • The logs were generated in this time zone
  • Reports will be generated in this time zone

The logs were generated in this time zone

This setting affects Microsoft IIS log files and any other log files which do not have a GMT offset.  Use this setting when log files are created in a different time zone than the time zone where the Firewall Suite machine is located, or if the Microsoft IIS server is not logging in the default, GMT.

Reports will be generated in this time zone

This setting affects log files which contain a GMT offset, and can be used to change the reported times.

You can also specify the time zone in which reports will be used. This ensures that your reports make sense to users outside the time zone where the log files are created.

Notes:

If either of these settings are changed, all existing FastTrends data for the profile must be deleted and regenerated.
