HOWTO: How do I create/recreate the WebMarshal database?

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • WebMarshal

Question:

How do I create/recreate the WebMarshal Database?

Procedure:

  • To create a new database in WebMarshal 6.X or 7.X:
    1. Open the WebMarshal Console and in the top pane click Global Settings (or Server and Array Properties).
    2. Select Reporting Database  or Database Logging and then click Create Database.
    3. Check the Re-create database box and enter the details for the database.
    4. Click OK.
  • To create a new database in earlier versions, open the WebMarshal Console and in the left hand pane, right click on WebMarshal. Select all tasks and then click on Re-run Install Wizard. This will run through the install process again and give the options for the database configuration including the option to recreate the database.

Notes:

  • In WebMarshal 3.X all configuration and policy (rules and policy elements such as TextCensor scripts) as well as browsing history logs are kept in the database. If a new database is used all configuration will be lost. Be sure to back up your WebMarshal configuration before you create and select a new database. You can restore configuration after selecting the new database.
  • In WebMarshal 6.0 and above, only the browsing history will be lost if the database is re-created. In this version the configuration is stored in XML files in the WebMarshal directory.
