Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • MailMarshal (SEG)

Question:

How do I create a MailMarshal Test Environment on a single machine?

Procedure:

How to send and receive mail in a test environment using MailMarshal and Outlook Express only.

  1. Create two Identities in Outlook Express. One will be used to send, the other to receive.
  2. Sending Identity: create an Identity with the following Mail Account properties:

    Display Name: Test Sender
    Email Address: test@outsidedomain.com
My incoming mail server is Pop3
    Incoming Mail Server: 127.0.0.1
    Outgoing Mail Server: 127.0.0.1
    Account name: test
    Password: test

  3. Receiving Identity: create another Identity with the following Mail Account properties:

    Display Name: Test Receiver
    Email Address: test@localdomain.com
My incoming mail server is Pop3
    Incoming Mail Server: 127.0.0.1
    Outgoing Mail Server: 127.0.0.1
    Account name: test
    Password: test

In the MailMarshal Configurator or Management Interface, add localdomain.com as a local POP3 domain. Then create a test POP3 user with the following email address – test@localdomain.com

How do I send a test message?

In Outlook Express Switch Identities to Test Sender. Send a test email to test@localdomain.com.
To read email Switch Identities to Test Receiver. You may need to synchronise with the POP3 Mail Server (127.0.0.1).

    What else can I do?

Create a new POP3 account to receive (and test) all your Administrator Notification messages.

SEG configuration

  1. Create a new local domain by selecting Local Domains in the left pane of the Configurator (MailMarshal (SEG) 10 System Configuration item).
  2. Add a local domain.
  3. Select Routes from the left pane in the Configurator (MailMarshal (SEG) 10 System Configuration item). Add a Routing Table or edit the properties of an existing one.
  4. Create or edit a Local Domains entry in the routing table.
  5. Select Deliver to POP3 mailboxes.
  6. If you created a new routing table, set it as default.
  7. Commit configuration.
