This article applies to:
- MailMarshal SPE
- IPv6 protocol
Question:
- What are the capabilities and limitations of IPv6 usage with MailMarshal SPE?
Reply:
MailMarshal SPE current versions support IPv6 for email delivery (using the supported versions of MailMarshal SMTP/SEG).
- For more details of MailMarshal/SEG abilities and limitations in this area, see Q15607.
MailMarshal SPE also supports IPv6 for communication between components. Some input fields do not accept entry of IPv6 addresses, but a host name or FQDN that resolves to an IPv6 address can be used.
Upgrade note:
When you upgrade MailMarshal, IPv6 binding for the SEG Receiver connections is disabled by default. This is to avoid changes in policy results that depend on IP addresses. to adjust custom bindings you must use the MailMarshal SEG configurator for each array.
- If a server had custom (IPv4) binding settings before upgrade, they will not be changed by the upgrade process.
- To accept messages via IPv6, change the Receiver binding for each processing server.
- Find this setting in the MailMarshal SEG Configurator, Server and Array Configuration > Servers > {server name}, open Server Properties and select Advanced.
- To allow binding on all IP addresses and ports, delete any entries in the Receiver Binding list. A default entry will be added automatically.
- Save and commit configuration.
