URL Keyword Filter Control

This article applies to:

  • All R3000 Software Versions

Question:

  • What happens when I have Keyword Filter Control option enabled

Information:

With the URL Keyword Filter Control option enabled, URL keywords can be set up to be blocked. When a user enters a keyword in the address line of a browser window, if that keyword has been set up to be blocked, the user will be denied access to that site or service. URL keywords are entered in the URL Keywords window of 8e6 supplied
library categories and custom library categories. With the “Extend URL Keyword Filter Control” option enabled, a URL keyword search will be extended after the "?" character in a URL.

Notes:

WARNING: If this feature is activated, use extreme caution when setting up URL keywords for filtering. If a keyword that is entered in a browser’s address window contains the same consecutive characters as a keyword set up to be blocked, users will be denied access to URLs that are not even within blocked categories. For example, if all URL keywords containing “sex” are blocked, users will not be able to access a non-pornographic site such as http://www.essex.com.
