Debugging delivery of notification email from the SPE Console and services

This article applies to:

  • Trustwave/MailMarshal SPE

Question:

  • How do I debug problems with delivery of notification and administrative email from the SPE Console and services?

Procedure:

SPE uses a dedicated service to deliver notification email, such as licensing messages and SQM password messages.

If you are experiencing problems with delivery of notification email messages, you can learn more about the reasons using the management tool for the SPE email service.

The EASendMail tool is installed in the folder \MailService\ within the SPE installation. The service is installed on each server where SPE components are installed.

To use the management tool:

  1. Open the tool. The default locations are
    • For SPE 4.0 and above (new installations only):
      C:\Program Files\Trustwave\Trustwave SPE\Mail Service\mgr\EASendMailSvCMgr.hta
    • For SPE 3.7 and above:
      C:\Program Files (x86)\Marshal\MailMarshal SPE\Mail Service\mgr\EASendMailSvCMgr.hta
    • For SPE 3.6 and below:
      C:\Program Files (x86)\Marshal\MailMarshal SPE\Mail Service\EASendMailManager.exe
    • On 32 bit systems adjust the path as required.
  2. From the left menu, select Journal.
  3. On the first line of the right hand side, click the link "Please click here."
  4. Use the menu at the top to review journal entries, particularly the Relay Error and System Error listings.

Notes:

  • All SQM related email is delivered from the SPE WebConsole server (not the SEG/MailMarshal SMTP Array Manager).
  • SPE Licensing emails are sent from the server that hosts the SPE Interface Agent or Maintenance agent.
