How is TRACEnet Licensed?

This article applies to:

  • WebMashal 6.5 and above
  • TRACEnet service

Question:

  • How is TRACEnet maintenance calculated?
  • How is the TRACEnet service licensed?
  • TRACEnet update reports Invalid License

Information:

TRACEnet is a zero-day protection framework provided through WebMarshal. It provides frequently updated lists of URLs that are considered malicious by the Trustwave SpiderLabs team.

TRACEnet is available to all WebMarshal customers with current maintenance entitlement.

TRACEnet is also available for all WebMarshal trial installations (Trial and Temporary product keys).

The entitlement is checked by the TRACEnet update server, based on the product key, using the Trustwave customer database.

  • When WebMarshal is licensed with a customer key that is not listed in the customer database, the service reports "Invalid License"
    • If your key and maintenance are current, please contact Trustwave and inform us of the key so that we can update our records.
  • When WebMarshal is licensed with a customer key and maintenance is expired, TRACEnet will still be enabled. However, no new TRACEnet libraries (database updates) will be applied.
  • When WebMarshal is licensed with a trial key that has expired, the WebMarshal Engine will pass through traffic without inspection or filtering. Although TRACEnet and other functionality appear as enabled in the WebMarshal Console, TRACEnet will not filter any threat URLs.

Note:

To review the maintenance entitlement for TRACEnet, open the TRACEnet page in the WebMarshal Console.

To review the trial key status, open the licensing page in the WebMarshal Console Server Properties.
