End of Life Notice: R2000 Enterprise Filter

TO: All 8e6 Technologies customers and resellers.
BACKGROUND: 8e6 Technologies has announced the discontinuation of the 8e6 R2000 Enterprise
Filter. Reasons for this discontinuation are as follows:
• Introduction and availability of the 8e6’s next generation filter, the R3000 (introduced November, 2003).
• The R2000 is based on older hardware technology (to be replaced with new & current hardware of the
R3000).
• The R2000 is based on older software filtering technology and doesn’t offer some of today’s required
features; i.e. IM, P2P, enhanced Authentication, etc.
• Obsolete operating system. The R2000 is based on BSDI UNIX, which has been discontinued by the
manufacturer. The R3000 is based on Red Hat Linux.
• URL database growth exceeds R2000 capabilities. The R2000 is based on 37 categories; The R3000
is currently based on 78 categories with the capacity to support up to 250 for future growth.
• Continued production of the R2000 would necessitate price increases for hardware, updates and
support.
DEVELOPMENT: There will be no further development of the 8e6 R2000 Enterprise Filter features.
SUPPORT: The 8e6 R2000 Enterprise Filter warranty covers use and service for a period of one year
from date of receipt unless an extended support and subscription were purchased. Technical &
warranty support will be offered on the 8e6 R2000 Enterprise Filter until August 1, 2005. Depending
on your date of receipt, your warranty and support may expire sooner.
- No product enhancements, design requests or upgrades are available for this product.
- No renewals available after October 1, 2004 without updating to the R3000 platform.
- No new patches/problem fixes available after December 31, 2004.
- No spares or replacement parts available after December 31, 2004.
- No tech support calls accepted on this product after August 1, 2005.
Please note:
• This notice does not affect warranty, maintenance or spare part availability under existing contracts for
products sold prior to the date of this notice.
• This notice does not pertain to other products provided by 8e6 Technologies or its other affiliates either
in the United States or abroad.
• This is not intended to change the status of agreements not currently in effect, e.g., if the applicable
term of the agreement has passed, or as to which 8e6 Technologies has provided earlier notice of
termination or non-renewal.
EFFECTIVE DATE: This Manufacture Discontinuation Notice is effective as of the date above;
provided that 8e6 Technologies will honor contractual commitments, including prior notice
requirements (i.e., if your contract requires 60 days advance notice of discontinuation, the
discontinuation will be effective 60 days from the date of this notice).
