Question:
Running authenticat.exe in debug mode using a log file.
Reply
When running into problems with 8e6 Authenticator (authenticat.exe), it is possible to run the application in a "debugging" mode as a troubleshooting tool. Problems can include the following:
- Not being able to initially authenticate.
- The application fails to start properly.
- The application kills itself after a short period of time.
While in debug mode, authenticat.exe will generate a log entry for various steps of operation. To run authenticat.exe in debug mode using a log file, use the following command:
start authenticat.exe RA[VIP] LE[0] LD[4] LF[c:\]
- VIP should be replaced with the virtual IP address used for authentication
- LE[0] specifies that the debug log will be written to a log file.
- The LF parameter contains the location where the log file is saved. Make sure the local user has write permissions for the path specified.
- The LD parameter indicates the level of logging detail in which 4 is the highest and 0 will only report errors.
