This article applies to:
- MailMarshal SPE 2.3 and above
Question:
- How are features licensed?
- Some rule condition and policy elements may not be visible in the Console
Information:
In MailMarshal SPE 2.3 and above, product components are licensed separately.
The following components can be licensed:
- Anti-Virus
- Anti-Spam
- Content Scanning
- SpamProfiler
- IP Reputation Service (3.0 and above)
- Blended Threats (3.0 and above)
Depending on the licensed components, some menu items and functionality will display or be hidden in the Administration and Customer Web Consoles. These include Rule Conditions, Policy Elements, SpamProfiler configuration, SpamCensor updates, and the SQM Console.
The automatic trial license includes all items.
To check which components are licensed, click About in the
Administration Console menu tree.
Feature availability
- If Anti-Spam is not licensed, the SQM website feature is not available (including configuration interfaces in the Consoles), and SpamCensor updates are not downloaded.
- If SpamProfiler is not licensed, the SpamProfiler updates are not performed.
Rule condition availability
The following Rule Conditions are affected by licensing.
- A check (or text in Other Components) indicates that the Condition is available if the component is licensed.

Usage Reporting
Two additional system reports are included to show customer usage of these features:
- License Allocation History shows customer usage of the Anti-Virus, Anti-Spam, and Content Scanning features over time.
- License Allocation Summary shows current customer usage of the Anti-Virus, Anti-Spam, and Content Scanning features.
Note:
Licensing of individual virus scanners, and Image Analyzer licensing, are controlled by the MailMarshal SMTP keys installed on each array.
