Allowing users full access to the web and logging all sites visited

This article applies to:

  • WebMarshal 6.X and 7.X

Question:

  • How do I allow users full access to the web and log all of the sites visited?

Procedure:

The following instructions indicate how to allow users full access to the web, while logging all sites visited for silent monitoring, planning, or piloting of WebMarshal.

NOTE: The instructions assume the WebMarshal default rules have not been changed or deleted. To see a list of the WebMarshal default rules access the WebMarshal documentation page.

Enable Logging

Logging is not enabled by default when installing WebMarshal.

You can enable Traffic Logging and Database Logging by selecting Tools > Server and Array Properties. Select Traffic Logging or Database Logging from the left pane and check the appropriate boxes.

Allow Full Access and have WebMarshal Classify URLs

To classify all the URLs visited by the users of WebMarshal follow the steps below:

  1. Import users into WebMarshal. See the User Guide for more information.
  2. Disable all the default rule containers in WebMarshal.
  3. In the Standard Rules node enable the Classify & Permit Access rule container and ensure all the rules within it are enabled.
  4. If you want to classify and report on HTTPS traffic, enable HTTPS content inspection and HTTPS rules. See the User Guide for more information.
