Why are digest emails displaying as garbled text?

Question:

  • Why are digest emails displaying as garbled text?
  • Users receive message digest emails but they appear as garbled text.

Information:

It is likely that some other software is scanning the messages and not retaining encoding or character set information.

The use of Trend Micro Antivirus for Microsoft Exchange is a known cause of this problem.    

Solution:

Disable or uninstall the offending software.
