What is the Message Parking feature in MailMarshal?

This article applies to:

  • Trustwave MailMarshal (SEG)
  • Trustwave ECM/MailMarshal Exchange

Question:

What is the Message Parking feature in MailMarshal?

Information:

Message Parking allows you to specify the times of day when MailMarshal will deliver large email messages or messages that will require a lot of bandwidth to deliver to all recipients. This means that users can send large email messages at any time of day without affecting other email traffic.  The messages will be stored in a message parking folder until a specified time, when MailMarshal will release them.

The following instructions explain how to set up message parking in SEG/MailMarshal SMTP 6.X and above, and MailMarshal Exchange 7.X:

  1.  In the MailMarshal Configurator (MailMarshal (SEG) 10 Management Console), set up a message parking folder.

    • Browse to Policy Elements -> Folders.
    • Create a New Folder.
    • Select Parking Folder.
    • In the Parking Schedule, select the range of times when you want to park large messages.  Messages will be delivered from this folder outside of this period.
    • Type in a name for the new folder, write a description of the folder's purpose, and choose a folder Icon.
    • Complete required fields and save the folder.
  2.  Set up a message parking e-mail policy.  Your policy should look something like this: -

    When a message arrives
Where message size is greater than '2048 KB'
    Park the message in 'Parking'

    OR

    When a message arrives
Where the estimated bandwidth required for delivery is greater than '2048 KB'
Park the message in 'Parked Large Files'
