Upload rules do not work as expected

Symptoms:

• Upload content analysis rules do not work as expected.
• Example: When uploading data using a Web based e-mail account, the upload is successful despite the Upload rule, which should block such uploads.

Causes:

1. Ensure that HTTPS inspection is enabled for all sites. By default WebMarshal does not scan encrypted data and therefore upload rules will not work if the site is a secure site.
   • You can always block the URL of the web based e-mail site using a site rule. 
2. Sites use different methods to upload files and message content. It may be necessary to experiment with the content types affected by rules, such as upload forms and specific file types like zip or document files.
   • Consider use of WebMarshal Traffic Logging, as well as full logging in the Proxy and Engine, to determine the exact http methods used for data transfer.
