This article applies to:

  • WebTrends Firewall Suite 4.0x
  • WebTrends Firewall Suite 4.1x

Question:

How do I upgrade to a newer version, and use the migration tool to move profiles from an older version to a newer version, or from one product to another?

Symptoms:

  • Profiles and other related files need to be migrated to a newer installation of the product.

Changes Made:

An upgrade to a newer version of the product has been completed. The newer version was installed to a different directory than the original installation.

Procedure:

When upgrading from an older version of one product to a newer version, or when you upgrade from certain products to a different product, the migrationtool.exe can help you import your old configuration files.

Migrationtool.exe varies slightly between programs because of differences in the file structures of the programs. For instance, in Firewall Suite, the migrationtool.exe is only able to import configurations from older versions of Firewall Suite.

The migrationtool.exe does not work across different platforms (from a Windows machine to Linux, or Linux to Solaris, etc.).

Migrationtool.exe will migrate the following:

Firewall Suite's migration tool is only able to migrate from Firewall Suite:

  • Profiles
  • Memorized Report Templates
  • Intranet Management
  • Ad Views and Clicks
  • Keyword.ini
  • Scheduled Events
  • All Alerting and Monitoring Configurations

For Windows Installations:

The migrationtool.exe is found in the root of the installation directory of the Firewall Suite software. By default, this installation will be <install drive>\Program Files\Firewall Suite.

Double-click on the migrationtool.exe and it will request a source folder and target folder. The source folder is the location of your old installation and the target folder is the location of the new installation. Click the Migrate button and it will import your old configuration to the new version.
