How do I update SpamCensor definitions (when spam is not being detected by MailMarshal)?

This article applies to:

  • Trustwave MailMarshal (SEG)

Question:

How do I update SpamCensor.xml (when spam is not being detected by MailMarshal)?

Symptoms:

  • Spam detection rates are falling, or spam is not being detected.

Procedure:

MailMarshal automatically updates many items, including spam definitions. Some of these updates are only available to later versions of MailMarshal.  Thus, you should keep your MailMarshal version up-to-date.

To manually force an update or to review your automatic update information:

  1. Launch the MailMarshal Configurator or MailMarshal (SEG) 10 Management Console.
  2. Go to Trustwave SEG Properties | Automatic Updates.
  3. If not checked, check the Enable Automatic Updates checkbox.
  4. Here you can see when the last update was performed.
  5. Click Check for Updates Now to check for any recent SpamCensor updates.

Notes:

If the Update Now process fails, you may find additional useful information in the following Trustwave Knowledgebase articles:
