This article applies to:
- Trustwave MailMarshal (SEG)
Question:
How do I remove SEG/MailMarshal SMTP information from the Message Header and greeting string?
Procedure:
By default the message header displays the following information:
Received: from machine_name ([IP address]) by domain.com with Trustwave SEG (version number)
The greeting string displays the following information:
220 domain.com ESMTP Trustwave SEG (version number) Ready
In some cases it may be preferred to remove this information from the message header and/or the greeting string. For example, you may not want to advertise the fact that SEG/MailMarshal is installed or what version is installed.
To alter these items you can adjust the following settings (these changes apply to the entire array):
MailMarshal 6.5 and above
- In the Configurator or MailMarshal (SEG) 10 Management Console, navigate to Array Properties | Receiver Properties | Advanced.
- Modify the Greeting String and Received Header fields.
MailMarshal 6.0 through 6.4
- Click Tools | Server and Array Properties.
- Click Advanced tab.
- Click Additional Options.
- Click Receiver tab.
- Click the Help button for additional information regarding the options that are on the tab.
Notes:
You can also change the server name used as the HELO name when connecting to send mail. See Trustwave Knowledgebase article Q10259.
