How do I install MailMarshal (SEG) or ECM Web components in a different location (other than the default virtual Web site)?

This article applies to:

  • Trustwave MailMarshal (SEG) 8.X and below
  • Trustwave ECM/MailMarshal Exchange 7.X

Question:

How do I install SEG or ECM Web components in a different location (other than the default virtual Web site)?

Procedure:

You may wish to install the SEG/MailMarshal SMTP Spam Quarantine Management website, ECM/MailMarshal Exchange Quarantine Management website, or Admin Console (versions 8.X and below) in a different location from the default Web site of IIS. For example, you may want it as the root of its own website on a Microsoft Windows Web server with multiple virtual sites.

The website installer does not support this configuration directly, but an advanced Web administrator can change the configuration manually as follows:

  1. Install and configure the Web components as usual.
  2. Using IIS manager, delete the virtual directories from the default website.
  3. For each site, add a virtual site or a virtual directory, and point it to the appropriate folders within the Web Components installation.
  4. In the properties of the site or directory, be sure to check or uncheck anonymous access, depending on whether you want form based or NT-integrated authentication.

Notes:

In MailMarshal SMTP 6.2 and below, the Web Configuration Tool will not work if you make the changes described above. This tool depends on virtual directories of the default website.  However, you can edit the properties normally managed via the Web Configuration Tool by editing the web.config files manually. Editing of the config files should be performed by experienced users only. These web.config files are located, by default, in the corresponding Web components folder (such as C:\Program Files\NetIQ\MailMarshal\MailMarshal Web Components\Spam Quarantine Management).
