How do I configure the Firewall Suite Reports MAPI function?

This article applies to:

  • Firewall Suite 4.X

Question:

How do I configure the Firewall Suite MAPI function?

Procedure:

When you create a Firewall Suite report, you have the option to (automatically) e-mail the completed report.

To configure Firewall Suite to perform that function, go to Options | Main | e-Mail. There are two methods from which to choose: SMTP and MAPI. Select the method that applies to your situation. If you have questions about which method to use, consult your network administrator.

This article address the MAPI function.

  1. How do I configure the WebTrends MAPI function?
There are three fields to supply information for:

  1. Profile
Enter the name of the profile (e.g., "Microsoft Outlook") to use for e-mailed Firewall Suite reports.
Note: Your MAPI profile differs from your username. If you are unable to determine the name of your MAPI profile, see your Network Administrator or refer to your e-mail program configuration for this information.

  2. Password
Enter the password (if applicable) for the profile selected.

  3. Subject
Enter the text you want to appear on the subject line of all e-mailed Firewall Suite reports.

  1. How do I determine which MAPI Profile to use?
Retrieve this information from the operating system itself, not the Firewall Suite application.

  1. Access the Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Mail icon.
  3. Click the Show Profiles button.
  4. This takes you to a window showing which profile is configured.
  5. The profile you see listed is the same profile you want to use when you configure the Firewall Suite MAPI function.

Once those steps are complete you will be able to e-mail reports and alerts directly from the Firewall Suite  application.

Notes:

  • Mail Application Programming Interface (MAPI) is an industry-wide standard which is usually the default method for accessing large mail systems like Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Mail, and cc:Mail.
  • Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is used by most Internet mail programs (Eudora, Microsoft Outlook Express, and Netscape, for example).
  • For additional information about either of these standards, consult the HELP Index built into your operating system or mail program.
  • For additional information about how to configure the Firewall Suite application to (automatically) attach Firewall Suite reports to e-mail and dispatch them to locations of your choosing (Firewall Suite Report function), consult the HELP Index built into the Firewall Suite application.
