How do I change the default folder location in MailMarshal?

This article applies to:

  • Trustwave MailMarshal (SEG)
  • Trustwave ECM/MailMarshal Exchange

Question:

How do I change the default folder location in MailMarshal?

Procedure:

Sometimes it may become necessary to move the SEG or ECM folders to an alternative location. This may be for reasons relating to disk space or performance, or it may be required simply for housekeeping purposes.

  • For example, upgrading from SEG 7.X to SEG 8.X migrates the install location, but does not move the folders, to minimize the time taken by upgrade. You may want to move the folders later.

Moving folders is a two stage process:

  1. Set up SEG or ECM to point to the new folder location.
  2. Move existing files (quarantined mail and possibly log files) to the new location. In some cases this can be done automatically.
  • In SEG 6.X through 8.X and ECM 7.X, you can change the physical path of each folder. In the Configurator, open the General tab of the Folder Properties window for each folder. For more information, refer to Help for this window.
    • Note: When you use the Configurator to change the physical location of a single folder, the product does not move existing files. You must move files manually.
    • This ability is not available in MailMarshal (SEG) 10.X
  • You can also use the Server Tool to change the base location for quarantine folders on each email processing server.
    • Note: When you change the base location for all folders using the Server Tool, the product does offer to copy existing files. After files are copied you must manually delete them from the old location. Copying files can take considerable time.
    • This ability IS available in MailMarshal (SEG) 10.X
    • For more information, see the User Guide and Help for the Server Tool. This process requires service restarts.

For general information about folders see the 'Working with Folders' section in the User Guide. The Guide is installed with the product. You can find the latest version on the documentation page for each product, or search product documentation from the Support section of the Trustwave website.
