Error: SNMP agent failed to start because wtagent.dll is missing or unconfigured.

  • Firewall Suite 4.X
  • Windows NT 4.0

Symptoms:

  • Error: SNMP agent failed to start because wtagent.dll is missing or unconfigured.
  • SNMP agent failed to start.

Changes Made:

This occurs on a new install of Windows NT or if you have recently installed any Microsoft software of srervice pack.

Causes:

The wtagent.dll is missing or is not configured.

Information:

Follow these steps to resolve the error:

  1. First, verify that the SNMP service is installed.
    • To do this, right click Network Neighborhood and choose Properties.
    • You will see a Services tab (this is not the same services from control panel).
    • Verify that SNMP is listed. If not, you will need to choose Add and install it.

  2. Once you have verified that SNMP is installed, re-install the Windows NT Service Pack that was currently installed. Even if SNMP was installed, you must re-install the service pack. 

When you see the SNMP agent failed to start because wtagent.dll is missing or unconfigured error, it is almost always because of the above reasons.
