Symptoms:

  • Error: "Could not access MySQL database on <computername>:3306 using password (YES).
  • Error: "Setup Failed."
  • No database files installed in <Security Reporting Center_install_dir>\common\MySQL\data

  • I receive a MySQL error when trying to login for the first time.

Causes:

Non-alphanumeric characters were used in either the username or password during the installation.

Security Policy prohibits the installation of the MySQL database.

Information:

In order to complete the installation of Security Reporting Center successfully please ensure the following:

  • ONLY alpha-numeric characters are used for the username and password during the installation.
  • Find the following registry key:

HKey_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem

Key:  NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation

If the value of this key is set to 1 Security Reporting Center will not install properly.  Setting the value to 0 will allow Security Reporting Center to install completely.

Notes:

WARNING: Using the Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Trustwave cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved.  Make sure that you backup your Registry prior to making any changes.
