Directory Replication problems between Exchange sites occur when Message Stamping is enabled in MailMarshal.

This article applies to:

  • MailMarshal Exchange 5.2 and below
    • Note: This issue does not occur with MailMarshal Exchange 5.3 and above

Symptoms:

  • Directory Replication problems between Exchange sites occur when Message Stamping is enabled in MailMarshal.
  • The Directory Synchronization, Directory Service, System Attendant, and Public Folder replication services of Microsoft Exchange are not working correctly.

Causes:

When message stamping is enabled in MailMarshal, message stamps are added to all mail messages, including those that originate from Microsoft Exchange services.  The Microsoft Exchange server has an issue with the extra information in these mail messages and may discard them as a result.

Reply:

To address this issue, you must exclude mail messages that originate from the Microsoft Exchange special services from Message Stamping in MailMarshal:
  1. Create a user group in MailMarshal called NoStamp and add these mail addresses to the NoStamp group:
    DXA2@company.com
    SITENAME-DSA@company.com
    SITENAME-SA@company.com
    SERVERNAME-PubIS@company.com
Note: For public folder replication, also add SERVERNAME-PubIS@company.com.

These are the mail addresses of the Directory Synchronization, Directory Service and System Attendant services of the Microsoft Exchange server in the site. Each server in the site will need to have these addresses included, and depending on the relationship to the MailMarshal machine, may need to be specified as inbound or outbound rules.
  2. In your Message Stamping Rule, exclude the NoStamp group as follows:
    Where message arrives
Except where addressed either to or from NoStamp
    Stamp Message with text
