INFO: What are the naming conventions for SpamCensor rules?

Expand / Collapse

This article applies to:

  • Trustwave MailMarshal (SEG)
  • MailMarshal Exchange 5.1

Question:

  • What are the naming conventions for SpamCensor rules?

Information:

The following naming conventions are used for MailMarshal SpamCensor rules. This information can be useful when investigating a SpamCensor log file.

  • EV - Evaluation
  • TC - TextCensor Script
  • RH - Regular Expression Header
  • RB - Regular Express Body
  • RS - Regular Expression Subject
  • MT - Meta Rule
  • NTS - Technical Support (used to prevent naming conflicts with versions of the SpamCensor released to the public)

Notes:

The above list is not complete and not all rules within the SpamCensor follow the conventions. When SpamCensor was initially created, these conventions did not exist. It is not possible to change the old rules to match the new conventions without potentially breaking customization done by customers. However, new rules that are created should generally follow this naming standard.
