Question:
- What steps are required to configure encrypted connections to the SQL server used by MailMarshal?
Procedure:
MailMarshal 11.1 and above includes an updated SQL driver that allows encrypted connections to the SQL Server.
To use this functionality, first ensure the SQL Server is correctly configured, and then enable the functionality in MailMarshal.
Configuring SQL Server:
Steps to configure SQL are covered in the Microsoft document Configure SQL Server Database Engine for encrypting connections
Before enabling the encryption function in MailMarshal, complete Step 1 in the Microsoft document (use certificates)
You should only complete the optional step 2 (force encryption) once you have enabled the function in MailMarshal and verified that any other applications that use the server are also correctly configured.

To configure encryption of the connection, see:
- Config Service Admin Tool, Database window
- Server Tool, Database tab
- Server Tool, Syslog database tab (if you are using the MailMarshal Syslog functionality)
In each location, select Encrypt Connection.
You can also choose Trust Server Certificate. This option is required if the certificate installed on the SQL server is self-signed and is not installed in the local certificate store.
