Proxy Caching disabled due to virus scanner activity

This article applies to:

  • WebMarshal 6.5 and above
  • Proxy Caching enabled
  • Virus scanner scanning the cache location

Symptoms:

  • Caching is selected but no requests are served from the cache.
  • Windows Event Log and WebMarshal Proxy text log entries show that caching is disabled due to virus scanner activity.

Information:

The WebMarshal Proxy Cache uses a file system directory to store cached files.

This directory must be excluded from on-access or resident virus scanning.

If WebMarshal detects that a resident virus or malware scanner is scanning the cache directory, caching will be disabled.

To ensure that browsing is not interrupted, the proxy service continues without caching.

To restore caching, exclude the cache directory from on-access scanning. If your installation includes more than one processing node, ensure that you have excluded the cache directory from scanning on all nodes.

When you have applied the virus scanner exclusion, restart the proxy service on the affected nodes to resume caching.
